TI304 Performance Management (10 ECTS)
Course facts
Introduction
The course will give students an introduction to the way leading groups and individuals in sport do holistic, integrated, and functional talent- and performance development. This will give a foundation to reflect on and discuss principles that are the root of effective performance development, and how this can be transferred into practice.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, students should be able to
- reflect on different philosophical foundations for applied performance management in sport
- consider how leading people and groups within different approaches to performance development in sport operate, with respect to coaching, applied science, managing performance systems, performance culture, and the athlete perspective.
- discuss practical approaches to performance development in sport, from theoretical paradigms, models and principles from different sport science perspectives.
- apply and integrate principles for performance development to your own practice as leader, coach or consultant.
Learning styles and activities
The structure of the course will be a combination of preparation for and participation in lectures and discussions, and group assignments (group presentations and critical questioning).
Mandatory assignment
- Active participation in lectures is required. In addition, students will be split into groups that get tasks to present to the rest of the class (in English).
- 100 % attendance in instructor course in Cardio-Pulmoary Resuscitation (CPR).
Students need to be approved on the group presentation and the CPR to be able to later take the individual exams.
Assessment
Students are assessed in two ways, each counting for 50 % of the total grade in the course.
- Individual paper (up to 4000 words), to be worked on “at home”. In working with this, students will use available documentation to describe, understand, and critically assess a person/role or group in performance development in sport. The paper can be written in Norwegian or English. Grades (A-F) will be given.
- Written 2-hour school exam. No helping aids allowed. Grades (A-F) will be given.
Tasks submitted via Wiseflow will be run through Urkund for plagiarism control.
