Innledning

The starting point of the course is the fact that international organizations and international cooperation are having a greater impact than ever on the organization of sport within national societies. International organizations and their roles in the sport area will be described. The course will examine the functions not just of international sport bodies such as the IOC, but also international organizations such as the EU and UN. An overall goal is to locate sport within an international context.

The students shall:

  • Understand the key aspects of globalization
  • Understand how international organizations such as IOC, EOC, ANOC, WADA and international sport federations operate.
  • Understand how the Olympic Movement (IOC, international federations and national Olympic society) works.
  • Understanding the Nordic sport models
  • Understand the relationship between international and national sport federations.
  • Have a basic understanding of the general organisation of international institutions such as the EU, the Council of Europe and UN/UNESCO.
  • Understand the role of these international institutions in the sport area.
  • Understand how the national and international sports area is influenced by the EU, the Council of Europe and UNESCO.
  • Understand the role of the international organisations in areas such as doping and in regulating international transfers.
Organisering og arbeidsformer
The course will be taught through lectures and discussions and will involve a number of case studies.
Vurdering
Individual oral exam, graded. Norwegian students can take the oral exam in Norwegian.
