Innledning

This course aims to further develop the student's understanding of outdoor life, as well as outdoor life education in the student's home country. It provides the participating student with an opportunity to identify, reflect on and explore a topic that has implications for his/her own professional development.

The student will chose a topic of special interest  to investigate further through completion of a project work, where the theoretical and the practical perspectives can be brigded. The topic should address one ore more of the following perspectives: Cultural, historical, political or pedagogical. The work will be outlined in an essay.

Mål

The student should demonstrate:

  • Development of research and critical analysis skills.
  • Critically examine key issues in professional practise within friluftsliv/outdoor education at an international level.
  • Specify a topic of enquiry suitable for investigation and justify its theoretical significance, professional relevance and practical feasibility.
  • Present work reflecting appropriate academic conventions in relation to style, tone, paragraphing, paraphrasing and referencing.
Organisering og arbeidsformer

The project will consist of a self-organized research study with on-going supervision. It may be completed either in groups of two or as an individual work.. Each student is given 3 hours of individual guidance. Students will be guided by their supervisor to define appropriate topics, select relevant literature, and design of an inquiry using a scientific approach.

There will be 10 hrs of lectures, including presentation and group based discussion activities.

Vurdering

The students will submit an assay of maximum 15 pages if it is an individual work (maximum 25 pages if a group project), including the front page and references, but excluding any appendices. All sources must be accurately cited and referenced using APA format 5th edition. Graded (A - F).

Pensum
200 pages (mandatory) will be given at the start of the course. Additionally, the student will select 300 pages to be approved by the teacher.
